The government has announced an extension of the nationwide curfew in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the county.
The government has also revised curfew hours for the 13 lake region counties that were designated Covid-19 hotspots.
In a new directive by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, on Friday, curfew in the counties will now begin at 10 pm from 7 pm and end at 4am like the rest of the country.
“The hours of the ongoing national curfew to continue across the country from 10 pm to 4 am across the country. This applies now to the counties in the lake region as well,” Kagwe said.
In June, the government revised curfew hours for 13 counties in the Western region from 10pm to 7pm.
The counties are; Busia, Vihiga, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Kericho, Bomet, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori.
In the new Covid-19 containment guidelines issued, all public gatherings including political rallies are suspended, as well as intergovernmental meetings.
While addressing the public from Harambee House Friday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the curfew will start from 10 pm to 4 am across the country.
The CS also announced a 30-day ban on all public gatherings, including office meetings adding that several government meetings have been also postponed.
Burials will have to be carried out within 72 hours following death confirmation, according to the new containment measures.
Kagwe urged employers in both private and public sector to allow employees to work from home until further notice.
He noted that that there has an increase of Covid-19 cases in Kiambu, Kajiado, Lamu, Makueni Muranga, Taita Taveta and for the first time Tana River counties.
He directed that the places of worship should be limited to 1/3 of the capacity of the venue in strict adherence to the Covid-19 protocols with at least a meter between the congregants with restaurant and eateries to operate in accordance to the measures issued by the Health Ministry.
Meanwhile, Kenya is on Saturday set to receive 400,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines donated by the UK government.
