Belgut Member of Parliament (MP) Nelson Koech has claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is responsible for the violent anti-government protests witnessed in 2024.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Monday, the legislator alleged that Gachagua was among politicians who orchestrated the mayhem during the protests, adding that charges have been approved by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

“The only demonstration done by the young people was one, the other one was executed by politicians including the former Deputy President and the DPP has approved charges,” he said on Daybreak Show.

“The DPP last week approved charges of three MPs and one other person so we will then be told what happened but in my view the way it happened, the people who came were not young people.”

At the height of the protests in June 26, 2025, Gachagua blamed the National Intelligence Service (NIS) for the chaos, calling for the resignation NIS Director General Noordin Haji

Gachagua faulted him for overseeing what he described as a decline in the agency’s effectiveness under his stewardship
