DPP drops case against 3 MPs arrested during Kabuchai by-election

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has dropped charges of three out of four legislators who were arrested in March during the Kabuchai by election.

Nandi Senator  Samson Cheragei, Nandi MP Wilson Kogo and Belgut MP Nelson Koech have all been lef off before Magistrate Stephine Mogute.

However, the case against Kimilili MP Didmas Barasa has not been dropped and he will appear in court on September 25, 2021.

The four MPs were arrested during the Kabuchai by election and were charged with preparation to commit a felony.

Chairman of National Muslim Leaders Forum Sheikh Abdullahi Abdi has weighed in to the current debate on whether politicians should be allowed to address congregants in religious institutions.

Speaking on a local television on Monday, Abdi said Mosque is a holy place and they cannot allow a politician to take over the pulpit.

“The etiquette in coming into a Mosque is to leave your title outside,” he said.

Abdi said religious leaders have a duty to ensure God is respected at all times.

“Let politicians leave the religious spaces to us. Let us respect religious places,” he added.

He said as Muslims, they rarely call politicians to participate in harambes.

“We believe that the right hand should not know what the left hand is doing. We conduct harambees once in a while.
